Remember how I had 6/7 approvals on learning from denials #2 then I got wanted to test stuff and got subsequently got 8/8 denials in learning from denial #3. Myy last round of apps (learning from denials #4) had 7/7 approvals, including the US Bank Altitude Reserve and Barclay Wyndham….and I guess it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that I had the urge to test stuff again.
Chase IHG and Hyatt
It is well blogged that all 11 of my Chase cards were closed in December of 2017 because of too many accounts/inquires. I recently applied for IHG to see if I was on Chase’s good side again. Turns out I’m not banned by Chase anymore and I’ve blogged about that in a separate post here. This isn’t an isolated case since my Player 2 isn’t banned by Chase anymore either. These are the first case suggesting that credit card ban on these cases expire much sooner than expected. Also, the latter post was one of the first (if not the first) to formally confirm that 5/24 has extended to more Chase cards.
Denial Statement: too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us
Barclay Choice Privileges
Barclay was offering the highest offer Choice Privileges card ever had so I had to try. Barclay is tough to get approved with but I was approved for their Wyndham card recently (see learning from denial #4) and I didn’t mind testing boundaries again.
Denial Statement: We have reviewed your application and determined that we are unable to approve you for a credit card account for the following reasons(s): the number of bankcards opened within the last 24 months
US Bank Radisson Rewards Visa Card
If you’re a regular to this blog then you probably know that I like my Radisson Rewards business credit card. If I recall correctly my first blog post (on the good old travelinmiles site) was on said card. I thought it was time to grab a personal card as well, especially because I was considering putting 30k on it annually to earn 3 unrestricted nights in US + 150k points.
US Bank had ‘recently’ approved me for Altitude Reserve (after 5 failed applications LOL) so I wasn’t sure if I would get approved for this one…and I wasn’t. I tried recon but was denied on second review as well.
Denial Statement: we regret we are unable to approve your application at this time due to number of inquires on credit bureau report
Bank of America Virgin Atlantic
If my memory serves of right, BoA’s Premier Rewards card was my 50/24 card. That coupled with the fact that I was approved for BoA’s Alaska card not long ago (see learning from denial #4), made me think I had a chance.
RIP Necker Island dream.
Denial Statement: Unfortunately we are unable to approve at this time due to following reason or reasons: too many accounts were recently opened.
Closing Thoughts
5/5 denial is a tough round of apps but the results were expected. Recon did not help in any of these cases.
Anyway, this round was particularly interesting because
- of Chase findings
- how Barclay, US Bank, and BoA all went from approving to denying in a manner of few months. It kinda gives one an idea on “how soon is too soon” with these banks. Looks like 6 months of clean report (see learning from denial #4) is definitely good enough for these banks but around 3 months may not be enough in cases of messy credit reports like mine.
