In late 2019, all my Citi credit cards were closed for having too many inquires, too many cards, etc. Citi put a restriction on credit privilege but allowed checking account relationship to continue.
In summer of 2021 I had applied for Citi Premier and the decline letter explicitly stated that “the credit privileges on your existing account(s) are currently restricted”.
I recently applied for Citi Premier again and the mention of restriction on credit privileges is nowhere to be found:
Is it possible that they started to format their reports differently? Sure. But this data point is possibly important because of this case of “shutdown for too many inquires/credit” was one of the first reported ones and it is possible that Citi may be handing these differently than shut down for other reasons. Also, applying for cards is how I found out I was still barred from Chase credit cards almost 2 year after getting shutdown. It is worth stating that I have been back with Chase for a while now.
Closing Thoughts
This could be something. This could be nothing like the time when I thought my unsatisfactory relationship with Chase had expired only for them to deny an application a little later.

you may be unbanned yes I was banned foe chargeback claims which they auto approved but then I guess had a change of heart , but instead of working with me or simply requesting money be repaid for claims they did not like after all, they chose to without warning, “shut me down” same as you this was probably in 2015 or 16 then randomly in like January 2021 I got pre approval mailer for rewards + also, having moved to a new address recently I applied and was approved and then a few months later I was approved for AA cxec card as well Interesting but refreshingly nice to see that their back office , does keep an eye out…… also I think I heard somewhere too, they might have had a leadership change not too long ago as well
Hi RG, great data point. I think change of address might be the key here. I had tried a different address as well.
