A while ago American Express sent out “we will be closing your Morgan Stanley card in 60 days” letter to those who no longer had eligible brokerage account. Well, here is a simple way to prevent that – just repeat whatever shenanigan you pulled to have an “eligible brokerage account”.
Obviously this time around you could actually fund your Access account but if you’re broke and can’t afford to tie up $5,000 like me, then, well, don’t fund.
Morgan Stanley will take roughly 60 days to close your unfunded account. After closure of MS account, it took American Express roughly 4 months to send “60 days notice”. I reopened an account about 40 days after getting the notice. Then roughly 20 days later, Amex wrote me a letter saying all is well.
We are writing to let you know we will not be closing your Platinum Card from American Express exclusively for Morgan Stanley account. We previously communicated that we would be closing your Platinum Card from American Express exclusively for Morgan Stanley account because you no longer had an eligible Morgan Stanley brokerage account. We have since verified that you now have an eligible Morgan Stanley brokerage account.
Closing Thoughts
Either fund or don’t but do something so you don’t flat out risk losing out signup bonus because American Express closed your account within 1 year.
