As you might recall myself, player 2, and player 3 were shutdown by Chase for having too many recent accounts and/or inquires. You might also recall me mentioning that player 3 was reinstated. This is the story of how player 3 got reinstated and what you can do if you find yourself in a similar situation.
I’ve delayed posting on this topic for several months. The above linked ‘player 3’ post was updated shortly after reinstatement but I never followed up with an actual post…until now. The reason for following up on this old story is pretty much because I’m working on a new (and promising) story on this matter…and in the meantime I thought I would finish up an old draft.
What to do After Chase Shutdown
The first thing to do is to let your brain process the idea that you may have permanently lost all your Chase credit card. It’s okay to go through all stages of grief 🙂
There isn’t really anything “big” you need to do to attempt to get your account back. The steps goes like this:
- pick up the phone
- call fraud department
- requested to be reinstated
- wait
You don’t need to say much. You don’t have to explain anything. I gave my player 3 clear instruction to simply ask for reinstatement and that is all that was done. I know several other people who did exactly that and got reinstated. I’m not saying this is a guaranteed way to get reinstated (such claim would be absurd) but I am 100% saying that there is no need to make a case for why you should be reinstated. Although I suppose saying stuff like “I’ve been a loyal customer for X years and never missed a payment” couldn’t hurt but it isn’t needed. Oh and you think player 3 didn’t need to make a case because of extremely low # of accounts, well, let me just say there have been folks who’ve been reinstated despite having 30+ new accounts in 24 months. Chase shutdown and reinstatement works in mysterious ways.
Anyway, few days after the reinstatement request, Chase’s website stopped saying “closed” next to each credit card. Then a day later I saw credit limit value return on each account and I was also notified that Chase had posted a notice/letter on player 3’s online account. These may like weird detail to mention but those who’re unfortunate enough to go through this process will appreciate them. The letter read “we apologize that we recently closed your credit card account in error. We reopened your account with its previous credit line of $1000.00”
This isn’t unusual either. Many people have received similar reinstatement letter from Chase. Needless to say this isn’t really an “error” but their bank their rule. All we can do is happy to be reinstated.

Thank you for the tip! What happened to your UR points after your account was shut down? Did you transfer them all out immediately? What was the number that you called?
