Yotta, PrizePool and Fold give you a chance of winning prizes. In this post, we figure out how many attempts it takes before you win a prize in these respective platform. In the case of Yotta and PrizePool I will strictly be talking about their debit cards. So let’s get right into it.
PrizePool Debit Card – How Many Swipes?
If you signup through a referral, you will get 10% of your ALL of your winning and I will also get 10% as well.

If you are not familiar with PrizePool then you can start by reading my full review of PrizePool. Afterward, you can follow-up with my I am moving money to PrizePool article. But the heart and soul of this article lies in my running numbers behind prizepool debit card article, in which I display how amazing 5% chance of winning was. As a reminder, 5% chance of reimbursement per purchase does not imply net 5% cashback and you can read about that in this article.
Anyway, we know that PrizePool’s standard chance of reimbursement per purchase is 0.5% which is the minimum chance of reimbursement you get with Yotta debit card. So, if you have to pick one debit card and PrizePool isn’t running a promotional rate (which they have: see 5% and 1.66% promos), then Yotta card is comparatively superior.
As mentioned in this post, with 0.5% chance of reimbursement, you would need to make 460 swipes just to get 90% chance of getting at least one purchase reimbursed. You can also see this information (and more) by following 0.5% graph in the next section.
Yotta Debit Card – How Many Swipes?
This has been ongoing since the inception of the debit card (I am only sharing few screens) and its amazing how they proudly show this information. It is almost as if Yotta doesn’t care…who knows maybe this is all insurance money for them.
Join Yotta using my referral code LUCKISYOURS and we’ll both get 100 tickets. Yotta is an FDIC insured savings account where you can win prizes up to $10M every week.

Yotta debit card offers various odds of reimbursement and it worthwhile to tabulate them:
Purchase with Yotta Debit | Odd of Reimbursement |
Regular Odds | 0.5% (or 1 in 200) |
Direct Deposit boost | 0.66% (or 1 in 150) |
Card Referral Boost (+30 days) | 1% (or 1 in 100) |
Category Boost (Dining) | 1% (or 1 in 100) |
Now, let’s compare various chance of reimbursement listed above (0.5%, 0.67%, 1%) along with 2% chance of reimbursement of Yotta Credit Card, and let’s throw in the 5% chance of reimbursement that PrizePool was running for the heak of it.
First, let’s look at the chance of getting reimbursed at least once a course of 100 purchases:
Then we zoom out a little and look look at the chance of getting reimbursed at least once a course of 200 purchases:
Finally we look at the chance of getting reimbursed at least once a course of 1000 purchases:
Yotta actually has a shopping portal of its own with odds as low as 1 in 5 (or 20% chance of reimbursement). The odds can also increase if you hold their credit card (eg 1/30 vs 1/15 on Netflix) but maybe that’s a story for a different post altogether.
On a side note: Yotta will instantly (at the time of card use) tell you if you win the prize whereas you have to wait a day or more on PrizePool. When your win you instantly get “one of your recent purchase was a lucky deal” notification:

Fold Debit Card – How Many Spins to get 3%, 4%, 5% Cashback?

Fold is a debit card that earns you Bitcoin (BTC) as cashback and I have extensively reviewed it here. You have a possibility of earning as high as a whole Bitcoin but that’s not the focus of this section. Fold recently made a change where per wheel you can earn at most one 3%, 4% or 5% cashback and you can read about my complain here. As I have said, its still a decent card (particular the free version) and I continue to use (and recommend) it for all the wrong reasons. Anyway, the question we look to answer is how many respin is enough to give us a “comfortable” chance of landing 3%, 4% or 5% cashback?
But first, we need to know what is the chance of winning 3%, 4%, or 5% cashback (or higher) on every spin? Luckily for us Fold hasn’t chanced this information in the last several wheel updates:
Based on above information, let us conservatively say that the chance of landing on prizes we want (i.e. 3%, 4%, or 5%) is 3 + 4 + 0.1 = 7.1% or 7%. Actually, I have plotted graph for four cases before 3%, 4%, 7%, and 7.1% and you can see that the last two plots are nearly indistinguishable:
So based on the graph provided above, if you hold 30 spins your chance of getting 3%, 4%, or 5% cashback is about 90%. Similarly, the chance falls to 84%, 77% and 52% with 25, 20, and 10 spins respectively. Remember there are bunch of ways to get spins (once again, see review for reference) so accumulating and hoarding them until you want to possibly burn them all isn’t too hard.
Closing Thoughts
The goal was to use basic high school math to figure out optimal way of winning these prizes but I am not sure if anyone is still following these series lol.
