The new SPG Luxury Card comes with a big annual fee of $450. Thankfully, it comes with $300 Marriott credit and said credit isn’t too difficult to use.
Eligible SPG or Marriott Rewards property purchases must be made directly with the participating SPG or Marriott Rewards property and charged to your Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card account for the benefit to apply. Incidental charges (including charges made at restaurants, spas and other establishments within the hotel property) must be charged to your room and paid for with your Starwood Preferred Guest®American Express Luxury Card at checkout in order to be recognized as SPG or Marriott Rewards purchases.
By this point many of you probably have thought about buying $300 gift card from a Marriott hotel to trigger the credit. Those who like to play safe will purchase gift cards at the main desk or even try to have gift card purchases charged to the room.
However that isn’t always a necessity. You can purchase these gift cards at a gift shop within Marriott and still trigger the credit. The one I went to didn’t allow billing of gift card purchase to the room (seems reasonable…i guess) so I ended up paying for three $100 Marriott gift cards with my SPG Luxury card. Before I made the purchase, I asked for how the shop codes and was shown top portion of an older receipt showing the hotels name and address.
Anway, two days after the charges posted, I saw $300 credit total on my account.
But wait there is more. As of writing this article there is a spend $300 and get $60 statement credit offer from American Express. This offer expires on 10/25/2018. I had received “great news! You just used your Amex Offer” email from Amex soon after using the offer.
A $60 credit was posted on my account a day after my gift card purchases had posted.

What’s the edge for buying marriott gift cards over just paying stright for the room with card to get the credit?
You resell it to get (most of) your money back.

Do you know if GC purchased on the hotel website will trigger credit?

Similar question: Do I have to be buying the gift cards at a Marriott Hotel front desk during a paid stay, or can I just
walk up to any Marriott front desk and purchase them? Do online Marriott gift cards also work to trigger the $300 promotion?
The best link to buy/sell Marriott Gift cards is: CARDPOOL.COM.
If you put a $300 Marriott gift card up for sale at this site, you will get back from $255–$260 depending if you choose
Amazon gift card or immediate payment.
Great tip! When you were at the hotel what code did you ensure they use when you bought the gift cards?
