Recently Frontier introduced UpFront Plus seats in the first two rows. It got a lot of mixed to negative comments from the travel space community (OMAAT, TPG).
What is UpFront Plus? Until recently frontier had 4 premium (extra legroom) rows (first three and then one exit row seat). Recently frontier converted the first two rows to “UpFront Plus”, which essentially means the middle seat cannot be booked in this row. You could say this is a lazy way of mimicking Big Front Seat in Spirit, but unlike Spirit, this is available for free for top Frontier status holders (Elite Diamond). Elite Diamonds can select UpFront Plus seats at check-in. Yes, it is the same top status that Frontier lets people’s status match to on occasion (read this post on why I got Diamond status with Frontier).
Closing Thoughts
If there aren’t a lot of people shelling cash at Frontier for these seats (there aren’t) and if there aren’t a lot of Diamonds members (there usually aren’t, except maybe some major/minor frontier hubs), then as a Diamond member I am nearly guaranteed to not only get to sit in front seats but also have nobody else seat immediately next to me.
P.S. Yes, I continue to use the GoWild pass that I had mentioned months ago but maybe that is a story for a different time.
