One of my favorite things flying out of Chicago was the fact that both MDW and ORD were equipped with Project Fi’s travel trolleys. It was possible to carry around pictures of QR codes associated with various accounts and essentially get one item per QR code in a single visit. If the vending machine was broken, one always had the option to reach out to the folks behind the vending machine and get an item of choice shipped directly to home. However, all that is changing because these travel trolleys are rapidly being pulled away from all airports. On March 26th MDW trolley was gone and on 29th ORD was pulled away.
Project Fi travel trolley was part of #FlywithFi contest but since the final #FlywithFi contest has ended, all trolleys are flying away. You can check removal date of each travel trolleys in this google form. For the curious, here is a list of airports where Fi trolleys used to exist:
- PHL, ORD, MDW, SJC, MSP, SEA, LGA, BWI
RIP. I will miss getting free socks.
