If you follow this blog then you know I love the 4% Coinbase card to a point that I have called it a must have. I have previously written about Coinbase card shutdown but that one was primarily focused around data breach. This time around, let’s talk about Coinbase card shutdown due to “violation of cardholder agreement”.
When your card is shutdown, the Coinbase app will say “the Coinbase card has been deactivated. If you believe this was in error, contact us.”
Some months ago you could appeal this via email, however when I attempted to do so, I was told to call instead:
In regards with your concern, please log in to your account and check if you have received any notification about the status of your account.
If you have received a notification stating that your account is deactivated, you can call 1 (888) 908-7930 and select option 4 or submit an escalation to https://help.coinbase.com/en/contact-us for assistance as well.
I did not call the number that was provided, instead I called the number on the back of the card (888-908-7930). This may have been a Meta Bank representative (Coinbase partner bank) as they could not do anything on their end, but they made it clear that they had put in a request to get the case escalated to an appropriate Coinbase representative. Soon after I got a confirmation via email that there was a case regarding my card deactivation:
We’ve reviewed your case and we’re going to have one of our Coinbase Card US support specialists take a look. They will follow up with you directly via email.
And within half an hour I received another email confirming that my card had been unblocked:
Thanks for contacting Coinbase Support. We understand that you have concern about your Coinbase Card that was deactivated and we’re glad to assist you all the way.
Our team has completed our investigation and has determined that your account meets our criteria to be unblocked for use. Please note that additional violations of our Cardholder Agreement may result in permanent suspension.
Access to spending with your Coinbase Card has been restored.
I asked them what exactly the violation was to which they replied that they could not provide the specific details.
Thank you for your response. We understand that you want clarifications on the violations committed with your Coinbase Card.
Please understand that we’re not able to provide specific details about our security features or our account reviews.
Closing Thoughts
It is possible that email may not work for reinstatement anymore, however it is apparent that Coinbase is still letting one reinstatement before permanent shutdown.

Mine did not get reinstated
Ouch. Maybe they changed policy.
I tried too but card was not activated back. Any other tips?
