Citi price rewind is one of my favorite benefits in a Citi card. Citi Price Protection currently has a limit of up to $500 per claim and total of up to $2500 per calendar year. Citi price rewind, like most credit card purchase protection, is available for up to 60 days from the date of purchase. What makes Citi price rewind stand out from price protection offered by other credit card issuers is that fact that you can file a claim with Citi online within 3 minutes or even less. Furthermore, you can file a claim and let Citi automatically detect a price reduction.
Login to Get Started
The very first thing you want to do is login into Citi price rewind site linked above and select the Citi credit card you made the qualifying purchase on. In other words, select the credit card that you used to purchase an item that that dropped in price or you think will drop in price.
Create a Price Rewind
To create a price rewind you can start by searching for an item that dropped in price or you think will drop in price. Citi ‘s database won’t find items all the time but it is likely to find items from established brands that have been available for purchase for a while.
If you find an item you are looking for, you can choose to let Citi automatically do the price tracking or you can proceed to file a claim then and there or later on.
I want to showcase an example where Citi did not find any result. Obviously in this case there is no option for automatically price tracking.
If you don’t see your exact item here or if you find a lower published price on your own (within 60 days of purchase date), you can submit your Citi Price Rewind benefit request online, via mail, or call
If Citi does not find your item then you can manually file a purchase protection by clicking on the “submit your Citi Price Rewind benefit request online” link.
After filling out the requested information and attaching a receipt, click on “add low price button”, and you will be asked to provide proof of low price.
This proof of lower price can be an advertisement displaying a lower price but the important thing to keep in mind is that you want to also display 1. what date the low price was on and 2. where did you find the low price. These two information is often displayed on a sale paper but what if you’re dealing with an online website? The latter part is satisfied if you display the website and its URL but how do you display the date? Simply click on your Windows clock button and take a screenshot of the website page along with the clock.
Here is the type of screenshot I choose to use if a popular site like Amazon is displaying a lower price. I did not include the URL but the screenshot has Amazon written all over it. There are a couple of dates in this screenshot and they give an estimate of when I took the screenshot.
The Waiting Game
Once you fill out the paper work, the waiting game begins. In the meantime, you can login into the price rewind website, go to “my price rewind tab” and check out the status of your current price rewind as well as the status and outcomes of all your previous price rewinds. You can see how much you got saved through price protection on each claims, how much you’ve saved in total for a selected credit card, and you can also even download receipt and advertisement on all previous claims.
Now, the waiting game itself is rather short. I have been approved for price protection on the same freaking day! I have noticed that small claims tend to get approved faster while bigger ones can take an extra day or two.
For example, in above $100 claim, I received an email stating that my claim is being reviewed 2 days after filing the claim.
Thank you for submitting your benefit request with Citi Price Rewind. We are reviewing your request. We will notify you if the difference in price is approved, and either a statement credit will be posted to your Citi card account or you will receive a check. We will notify you if your benefit request is not approved or if we need more information.
Then on the following day (3rd day) I received yet another email stating that my claim had been approved.
Congratulations, your Citi® Price Rewind benefit request has been approved! Depending on your payment selection, $100.00 has been either credited to your Citi® card account or a check has been mailed to you.
Sometimes Citi simply skips to the second “congratulations” email.
Closing Thoughts
I love how easy and fast Citi Price Rewind is. It is one of the primary reason why I have never used a 3rd party price protection triggering app like Earny.
Plus, I love the fact that my Citi AT&T Access More earns 3x on a lot of online websites, including Amazon. The $ that can be saved through Citi’s easy price protection is often too large to for me to ignore “hey my Chase amazon card earns 5% on Amazon” trap or “hey look I can purchase gift card and earn 5x through Chase Ink” trickery. Now, don’t get me wrong because I occasionally still use gift cards but I think twice before using a gift card.

I think it’d be worth mentioning Earny here, as it takes the legwork out of all of this. Also it’s often able to find prices I simply can’t find.
