You might recall that all my Citi credit cards were recently shut down. Obviously I filed a reinstatement request.
We appreciate your business as a Sears Mastercard customer. Unfortunately, as the result of a recent review of your account we found it necessary to close your Sears Mastercard account. Please do not attempt to use this account as no further transactions will be authroized.
The specific reason for account closure was due to the following:
1. Too many recently opened accounts
I called 888-302-9291 number (previously shared in a different Citi shutdown data point post) to make a reinstatement request. I was informed that Citi would do another credit pull to process my request.
About a week or two later, I called again only to be told that my case was being handled by a verification department and I was given a number to call (I will look for the number later). I was told I should call that number in an hour or two and they would have a decision by then. It seemed like Citi forgot about my request and it was pushed through because the case had been hanging on for too long. Anyway, sometime later I got a document in Citi’s e-communication center. It was titled “decline of account reopening”.
Thanks for contacting us about your Citi account. As you requested, we’ve reevaluated our previous decision to close your account. We are not able to approve your request after reviewing information on your consumer credit report. Specifically, your credit report shows too many open revolving credit accounts.
