Today, 2/21/2019, is supposedly the last day to apply for Chase Marriot Business and Amex SPG Personal. I was applying for SPG personal card and noticed something interesting.
When I clicked on submit a popup came up saying I was ineligible for bonus.
because you have or had a Marriott or Ritz-Carlton Consumer Co-Branded Credit Card issued by JP Morgan Chase, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer.
Except this individual does not have a Ritz-Carlton.
Sure they’ve had Ritz-Carlton card before but it has been almost a year since it was closed…by Chase.
According to Marriott-Amex rule, there should not have been such popup. The rules on the application for SPG personal clearly state:
Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had The Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards Credit Card from Chase, or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Credit Card from JP Morgan in the last 30 days.
IF you’re thinking “but there is 24 language”….let me just tell you that there is no “24 language” in basic SPG personal card.
That language is present on SPG Luxury card though
Welcome offer not available to applicants who (i) have or have had The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Credit Card from JP Morgan in the last 30 days, (ii) have acquired The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card from Chase, or The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Business Credit Card from Chase in the last 90 days, or (iii) received a welcome or upgrade offer for The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card from Chase, or The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Business Credit Card from Chase in the last 24 months.
Closing Thoughts
Either this is a case of Chase not sending updating information to Marriott about Ritz card getting closed (this is the likely case) or Amex SPG personal has 24 month rule even thought it doesn’t say so.
