I, like most people, thought T-Mobile would offer a decent BOGO Samsung S9 deal this summer but to everyone’s surprise the decent BOGO deal happened to be one involving iPhones.
Don’t Buy at T-Mobile Store
Don’t purchase iPhone at the T-Mobile store. You’ll be stuck with them for 24 months. It’s bad.
Instead Purchase at Apple Store
There is a T-Mobile BOGO deal that works if you purchase two devices at an Apple store at full price.
Availability: June 14 – 24, 2018
What to do?
- purchase two new Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, or X devices at Full Retail Price during the promo period. These devices are not locked to carrier!
- add a new line of voice service on a qualifying rate plan to an existing account or activate 2 new lines of qualifying service during the promo period. There is typically a $25 cost of adding a new line on an existing account. Sometimes there is a promo code to waive this fee but I don’t think this exists at the moment.
- file a rebate using promo code APL18JUNAPL
- use iPhones on your T-Mobile lines
- get $700 rebate 6-8 weeks later
- you can cancel line(s) after rebate
You can read detailed terms and condition in this official T-Mobile post.
You can also choose to do this deal at Costco but the promo code is COS18JUNAPL
The Qualifying T-Mobile Lines
All T-Mobile One plan qualifies but they can be a bit expensive.
You’ll benefit the most if you’re in discounted T-Mobile One plan like their 55+ plan or Military plan. Yes, the 55+ plan works just like it did for 50% off Pixel 2 promo last year.
What Card to Put the Purchase On?
The decision of choosing Citi AT&T Access More was a very simple one:
- up to 2 year warranty
- price rewind 😉
- I have 3x on all purchase retention offer
Closing Thought and a Personal Note
I gave one 8 Plus to my mom and another to my SO. I don’t think X was going to be worth for them. I personally still use Pixel 2 XL I got last year. I will likely grab two next gen Samsung phones in a similar deal that will hopefully pop later this year.
Is the deal worth it? YMMV. It was worth for me. Phone deals fall under very YMMV category so you need to do your own math.

They have a BOGO S9 deal now
if i recall correctly that one requires a bill credit which is not a very good deal.
I would like to replicate this deal for my mom, but I am struggling to understand if the current back to school deal is similar to the one you wrote about here. Any thoughts about similarities or differences? Also, can this deal be combined with something you wrote about earlier about a senior plan from T-mobile?
I will answer this in the email you sent me but for others who are curious:
I don’t think this back to school is worth doing because there are lots of other hoops to jump through. Plus deals unreleased google, galaxy, and apple phones aren’t very far away.
