BBVA, of all the banks, has come out with 100k points offer which equates to $1000 in cash.
Typically BBVA Select card has 50,000 points ($500 cash equivalent) signup bonus but for a limited time (12/1/2020 – 12/31/2020) they will double the signup bonus meaning you will earn 100,000 points for spending $4,000 within 90 days of opening the card.
It is important to note that application for this card cannot be done online so you may need to stop by a brick and mortar branch. Obviously you are required to wear a mask but you may also required to take off the mask so the banker can match your face with what is on your ID. Some folks have been able to apply over the phone so that is a possible alternative, however suspect taking application over the phone is not normal and BBVA might send a notice anytime asking bankers to stop doing that. Point being, if you can’t stop by the branch, I would urge dialing ASAP.
This card has no annual fee in the first year and $99 annual fee afterward. The card has a mediocre 4-3-2-1 earning rate and just about everything else about the card is meh as well. The most important part might be the fact that it has price protection.
Oh and you’re not eligible if you’ve an open BBVA card.
Closing Thoughts
It is a no brainer card and yes I applied possibly pushing my 5/24 goal even further.
There is a rumor going around saying 100k annual income is required but none of the 3 bankers I talked with were able to confirm an annual income requirement. Obviously bankers don’t know the full picture so we will need to wait and see.
