Last time I visited San Diego I had stayed at Review: Fairmont Grand Del Mar but this time around I decided to check out Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton.
The basic room in the main building was available for 63k points but I chose to go with Ocean Towers which cost me 69k points. Ocean Towers is a different building altogether and is closer to the ocean. It is around 2-3 minutes walking distance from the main building and requires a key-card for entrance.
My room had a balcony which provided a view of the parking lot as well as the pool and the ocean.
My room had a small hallway which is a huge plus.
To the right is the bathroom. I’m not a fan of bathroom that has direct view of the toilet but at least the view of the toilet is somewhat obstructed.
The bedroom itself was fairly standard. I’ve attached pictures from different angle for your viewing pleasure.
I’ve attached pictures of the room from few more angles.
The best part about Ocean Tower is that when you can exit out of the building and more or be on the beach in a matter of seconds. There are plenty of rocks in this beach. Some are piled up enough that you can climb on top of them.
Supposedly Coronado beach is one of the best beach in US. The sunset, with clear sky, should be beautiful here. As you can tell from the picture above, I was there in early part of the December and yet there were relatively a lot of people on the beach. Some folks were taking exercise classes, others were chilling out, and I was snapping pictures of bears.
At night, the lights went on and the Hotel del Coronado looked even more beautiful. Unfortunately, there was no decoration on the Ocean Tower.
We had free continental breakfast at Sheerwater restaurant in the property and I recall it being fairly recent.
Getting to the business center required a a bit of walking (probably 2-4 minutes) outside the main building. If I recall correctly, getting into the business center required a room-key. Unfortunately, doing certain tasks, like logging into airline sites to print boarding pass, required payment.
Overall Thought
Unlike, Ritz-Calrton Half Moon Bay I think this resort that has high revisit appeal. The beach is right behind this hotel, there are other dining options nearby, and most importantly it is only 10-15 minute drive away from San Diego downtown. The fact that resort fee is waived on Hilton points booking is great. Hilton Gold is easy enough to acquire so free breakfast is fairly easy to attain.
Should I be in San Diego again, I might stay at this property again but I likely won’t bother to book a room in Ocean Tower. Instead I might just checkout the basic (or upgraded) room in main building. I thought the Ocean Tower was a slightly dirty but it might just have to do with the location.
