This morning I got a text from my dad saying $100 Denizen bonus posted on his and mom’s account on September 10th. I checked and I had $100 credit for September 10th. Then after several friends and readers confirmed that they got bonus on September 10th as well, so I would assume most, if not all, already got their bonus. But the big question is if Denizen is a keeper?
The miles and points blogosphere rarely talks about Denizen. I posted about Denizen back in June, tested a few things, and occasionally booted the app to see if any significant changes had been made. But the only change that I noticed was the removal of chat (which was really an email) feature through the app. You now have to do it through an email app.
I had dearly wished that Denizen would actually block ATM fees but that wasn’t the case for me. Maybe that’s a difficult thing to engineer for a new bank like Denizen. But wouldn’t it have been cool if it worked all the time? It still wouldn’t have been super useful because there are other other institutes that refund ATM fee. For example, Schwab refunds all ATM fees at the end of the month and Fidelity refunds ATM fees few days after the transaction date.
That said, I likely won’t close the account because (a) there is no monthly transaction fee (b) there is no minimum balance requirement (c) I don’t mind having a 3rd “unlimited” ATM fee free debit card (d) I think I lose founding membership upon closure of an account, and most importantly (d) I’m skeptic of seeing a worthwhile bonus from these folks again.
Closing Thought
Keeping Denizen and hoping they get better.
